Savannah got a bike for her birthday. I happenstanced (is that a word?) upon a great deal at Toys R Us and it only cost $12. I figured even if she wasn't ready for a bike yet, for twelve dollars it would be fun to say you got a bike for your birthday.
Let me preface this all with an explanation. Camryn has not taken to bike riding...yet. We know that it will come...someday... at her own pace. She has a little too much fear and not enough desire to go more than a few feet at a time without stopping to make sure the asphalt is still there. She rides painstakingly slow, if at all. I remember her with her tricycle saying over and over "turn your handles to where you want to go!" as she went straight into a fence, or mailbox, or porch. Camryn excels at so many many things I don't feel too bad about commenting on this one thing that will require more practice.
So on Savannah's birthday my expectations were not set high. She would get on, scoot around with her feet a little, put her helmet on, take some pictures with her perched on her unmoving bike. So I was pleasantly surprised to find that Savannah is a biking natural. She got on it and just started riding. She steered effortlessly wherever she wanted to go. She surpassed Camryn's all-time max velocity in the first 5 minutes of ever getting on a bike.
I am a little embarrassed to say I got teary. I had resigned myself to not having my kids be out in the culdesac with the other kids zipping around on bikes all summer. I was going to have to find cool things to do at our house to lure the neighborhood kids in and off their bikes. But no! Savannah is so good!
On her birthday all the kids in the culdesac took advantage of the first over 30 degree day to come out and ride bikes. She zipped right along with them. I am also happy to say that the sibling pressure is working on Camryn too. She has ridden more on her bike in the last two days then she has since she was born (tricycle and scooter included.)
12" Huffy Bike: $12
Basket Attachment: $5
Helmet: $10
Your little sister riding her bike better than you so you make yourself stop being afraid and learn how to also: PRICELESS
These are just funny pictures. Chancelor woke up from his afternoon nap with major bed head.
We had a little birthday "playdate" on Saturday. Savannah picked out the biggest balloon she could find at the store and that's all she wanted. Oh, and airheads.
Sofia, Savannah, Brielle. They brought their Build-A-Bears and played dress up with them. For five minutes. It was supposed to take longer than that. We scrambled and had them make birthday crowns on the computer, and other little things to fill in the time.
Camryn and Leah. "helpers"
When Marshall saw us taking pictures of Chancelor with the princess crown on he immediately had us dress him in his manliest outfit.
We had a mishap. When you leave excited little girls to go upstairs to take a quick shower before a party... bad things can happen. It was face down on the kitchen floor. This is the reconstruction. Don't worry, we didn't eat it. We had to put candles in her ice cream cone and sing to her like that.

That party looks so fun! And chance really looks like David Beckham in that outfit!
Your poor cake!! It hurts me in my heart of hearts. Oh wait - that could be lunch. Either way, that poor cake!
Chancellor's hair looks decidedly red in these pictures!!!
Oh, what fun! We miss you guys. Can't wait to see you on Wednesday. Your pictures are wonderful. Love Chances cool hair. He's stylin'! Next time I bring the kids up I'll have to bring their bikes too. We can have a bike rodeo in the cul-de-sac. Hugs, Denise
